I’ve accomplished a wide variety of fitness this week: golf, scootering, obstacle course, and more. In the back of my mind is always the 150 minutes recommendation by many (if not all) fitness organizations: try to get 150 minutes per week of physical activity that raises your heart rate. My last post was on a Wednesday, so I’ll start with Thursday’s activities.
Thursday: 30 minutes tennis
In mildly warm sun, I played in a casual manner with my dad and sister. I wasn’t sure my sunscreen was adequately in place for a smaller top than I usually wear, so I cut my time short.
I had energy, just didn’t want to get a sunburn. I’m awfully pale in some spots. Even so, I had a lot of fun.
Friday: 60 minutes golf
Friday was my day off, so I took advantage of sun again and headed out for golf with my sister. We were at a tree-lined small golf course which felt perfect. The air was breezy and I wasn’t incapacitated like some hotter golf occasions in past years.
I learned golf about 3 to 4 years ago, and initially it was exhausting. I was pleasantly surprised after several months absence, golfing felt easy – it didn’t exhaust me in the heat! It’s a lot of walking, socializing, and paying attention when it’s your turn.
My golfing improved greatly since a few years ago. I got more loft and the right ‘ping’ almost every time I teed off. And I was sure to put adequate sunscreen on this time. I’m a big fan of spray sunscreen, so I can get the back of my shoulders, all around my neck, and all the other spots that are hard to reach, and right up to the edge of clothing.
Saturday: 60+ minutes walking
Saturday was walking and shopping in Sooke (at least 30 minutes), followed by a 30+ minute walk with my dad to a nearby park called Ed MacGregor Park and Marine Boardwalk – including a partial walk to waterfront down a long, winding wooden path under dense trees.
We might’ve done the whole circle to reach the waterfront and walk along the boardwalk to return to the town centre but it was cold! I’ve never seen such moist fog. I suppose I’ve never walked in fog before, now that I mention it. I guess it’s supposed to be damp.
Saturday evening: 60 minutes scootering
After dinner, I scootered around Royal Bay for hour while dad walked. That worked out nicely. I was tuckered out from doing some roads twice while he walked once. Excellent exercise. My longest scootering outing yet.
Sunday: just too hot
The following day, Sunday was hot. I normally would jog but chose not to, due to the heat.
Instead, I read my book under a tree. I could hear music in the neighbourhood. I had a luke warm coffee, a jug of water, and lunch bag of goodies. I was out there over an hour.
Monday and Tuesday: 50 minutes goofing around
The only other exercise I got in the next few days (still hot out) was about 10 minutes of footbag practice and about 40 minutes total on my new Ninjaline obstacle course.

Yes, my Ninjaline is too low. That’s as high as I can set it without a step ladder.
Final total: 260 minutes
Over 4 hours!
It felt great to reach 150 minutes by Saturday. I had no idea the rest of the weekend would be way too hot for exercise. Even with air conditioning, I’d have to wait till the late evening. That’s how I got the footbag and obstacle course time in.
I hope that inspired you to do at least a few physical exercise outings per week. Share your comments below – what did you do recently to reach or get close to 150 minutes?

I just realized I forgot to add in the 10 minutes of Daily Yoga app…so it was a pretty active week for sure.
